December 4, 2019 -- BRAINworks educator Pat led her students in a poetry lesson where they explored various creative writing techniques on the topic of a rainstorm. Students practiced freewriting techniques as they observed the rainstorm happening outside the window, incorporating vocabulary from previous lessons. The class worked together to create a group poem that includes a line from each student’s writing. The class poem is part of a larger poetry unit and was added to students’ poetry journals as an example of nonrhyming poetry. Pat’s students created a beautiful finished work and gained confidence in writing (and sharing their writing with others!)
